Campaign Donation Rules

Thank you for supporting our campaign for Ward 14 in the 2025 Calgary General Election. To ensure all contributions follow Alberta’s election laws, please review the rules below.

Who Can Donate

  • Individuals who live in Alberta.

  • Alberta-based corporations that are not prohibited organizations.

  • Alberta trade unions or employee organizations.

Who Cannot Donate

  • People living outside Alberta.

  • Prohibited organizations, such as:

    • Registered charities.

    • Municipalities or their controlled corporations.

    • Provincial corporations (e.g., housing bodies).

    • Métis settlements.

    • School boards or public post-secondary institutions.

    • Registered political parties.

Donation Limits

  • Individuals, eligible corporations, unions, or employee organizations can donate up to $5,000 total per calendar year (2024 and 2025 combined) across all council candidates (mayor and councillors).

  • Candidates can contribute up to $10,000 of their own money to their campaign during the campaign period (October 31, 2024, to December 31, 2025).

Donation Rules

  • Donations must come from your own funds. You cannot donate money given to you by someone else for this purpose.

  • Anonymous donations are only allowed if $50 or less and collected at a fundraising event (e.g., a donation box). If we can identify the donor, the money will be returned; otherwise, it will go to a registered charity or The City of Calgary.

  • Donations over $50 will receive a receipt with your name, address, and amount, which we’ll include in our public campaign disclosure.

  • Campaign donations are not tax-deductible.

Campaign Account

  • All donations totaling over $1,000 must go into a dedicated campaign bank account.

  • These funds will only be used for campaign expenses.

Fundraising Events

  • For ticketed events:

    • Tickets $50 or less are not counted as donations unless you request they be recorded (in that case, half the ticket price counts).

    • Tickets over $50 count as a donation, minus the fair market value of goods or services (e.g., meal or entertainment).

  • We’ll provide details on contributions from ticketed events in our disclosure statement.
