Why I'm running for City Council

averbukh-34.jpg

BECAUSE NOTHING CHANGES IF NOTHING CHANGES.

I used to vote for candidates who aligned with my fiscally conservative values. Like many, I wasn’t always deeply involved in municipal politics — well I am now.

That changed when our city’s current leadership was elected. From day one, their decisions and actions have repeatedly appalled and angered me — along with countless other Calgarians.

Some members of Council have made it clear they don’t value the voices of Calgarians. They operate more like a "floor", yet they sit at a table - it's not right and it's not OK.

Calgarians are the majority shareholders of the City of Calgary. City Council is elected to serve us. We expect maintained roads and infrastructure, public safety, efficient and accessible services — and a Council that reflects both our values and the importance of value itself.

I’ve always believed: If you want to complain about government, the least you can do is vote. But if you really want change — you better run.

So that’s why I'm running.

My vision delivers valuable and reliable services and stresses transparent & accountable leadership for both Ward 14 and Calgary.

I will put real systems in place to ensure your voices are heard — your values, concerns, ideas and priorities. My transparent voting record will support my accountability.

I promise to listen, work hard, and lead with conviction, compassion and fearless ambition. I will be a strong, effective voice for Ward 14 and ensure our city delivers meaningful returns to its people.

I will advocate for innovative, practical and realistic solutions to make Calgary more prosperous, affordable and safer — helping all Calgarians live better.

One of my first priorities will be to file a motion to "halt" the controversial blanket re-zoning bylaw. I will then pursue thoughtful amendments — ones that stay true to the original goal of creating affordable housing, respect community voices, include strong and controlled architectural design standards with supporting infrastructure.

I will also insist on a deep dive into the details of the $87 BILLION "Calgary Climate Action Plan". What is this? Why are we doing this? Why will it cost Calgarians $3.5 BILLION a year for the next 25 YEARS??

City Council needs to rebuild trust and you can count on me lead us there.

On Monday, October 20th, gather every eligible voter in your household and go vote. Municipal elections always matter — but with eight vulnerable seats on Council, this one matters more than ever.

BECAUSE NOTHING CHANGES IF NOTHING CHANGES.

The BEST way to support me and my campaign to be Ward 14's next City Councillor, is to order a lawn sign. (Donations are nice too).

We acknowledge that Ward 14 is situated on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, and the Métis Nation (Region 3). We recognize the deep connection these peoples have to this land, where we live, work, and gather, and we commit to learning from and respecting their histories and cultures.
